A Thousand Nights would not be sufficient to express our gratitude to our volunteers’ dedication and the magical work they accomplish, but on May 11, 2013, we were honored by their attendance.
Volunteers Takiyah Love and Savannah Sapienza were honored for their work in Youth Services. Carol Walkerfountaine graciously accepted the Volunteer of the Year Award and Jack Pittman was awarded the Charlene & Frank Disaster Award. Additionally, Topi Henderson received the Tiffany Award. The delicious meal was provided by Real Paella of Tallahassee and all had a wonderful time at the Bruster’s Real Ice Cream Sundae Bar. Tallahassee Fire Chief, Cindy Dick, topped off the evening as our guest speaker and had everyone in stitches — Cindy was also honored as the Chapter’s Fire Chief Community Partner . Thanks to everyone for an evening to remember!!
We can’t leap buildings in a single bound; we respond when they burn down, and the call to respond isn’t a beacon in the night sky, it comes us in the form of a late night phone call from the Fire Department, or an email when a severe weather alert warns of a hurricane, tornado or flood. Our volunteers don’t wear capes, they wear vests and badges, but each one of our volunteers is a hero in the eyes of our clients. There is a place for every kind of hero at the American Red Cross.
