Help The Capital Area Chapter

The Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross is not a government agency and all American Red Cross disaster assistance is free thanks to the generosity of people like you. Ninety-one cents of every dollar spent by the American Red Cross goes directly to programs and services that help people in need. What’s more, the value of your financial donation is increased by the fact that the ratio of volunteer American Red Cross workers to paid staff is 743 to 1. Contributions to the American Red Cross, a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, are deductible for computing income and estate taxes.

Donate through the United Way Designated Giving – Choose the Red Cross for your United Way donations.

Donate via a Living Trust – A living trust is an asset management plan established during your lifetime. Just like a will, it contains your instructions for what you want to happen to your assets when you die. But, unlike a will, it avoids the probate court process. This can result in savings of time and expense to your heirs. Because there are many complicated issues involved in establishing a living trust, you should consult an attorney experienced in estate planning in your state of residence to draft yours.

Donate via a Will or Bequest – By having your attorney revise your will or add a simple amendment, you can make a gift of a dollar amount, specific property, a percentage of your estate, or what is left after your loved ones have been taken care of. You may also wish to name one or more charitable recipients in case one or more heirs do not survive you.

Become a Sponsor to an Event - Program sponsorships offer year-round visibility in variety of ways in recognition of your company’s generosity.

In-Kind Wish List - Don’t throw it out, recycle it. The Red Cross is normally unable to accept collections of items such as clothing, food or cleaning supplies. If you have these items, we recommend taking them to several of our partner agencies to whom we refer clients for these items, however, the chapter frequently needs specific items.

The Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund – Help people affected by disasters by donating to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. On those rare occasions when donations exceed Red Cross expenses for a specific disaster, contributions are used to prepare for and serve victims of other disasters. Your gift enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to victims of all disasters.

The Clara Barton Society - For nearly 150 years, Clara Barton has been a symbol of American compassion and resourcefulness in times of crisis. Now, through membership in the Clara Barton Society, you can honor the sacred trust that the founder of the American Red Cross has placed in our hands. Learn how you can become a Clara Barton Society Member…
