Service to Armed Forces Volunteers
A wife gives birth prematurely … a father becomes critically ill … a sister dies unexpectedly. These are the kinds of emergency communications that are officially communicated to deployed servicemen and wonen all over the world on a 24/7 basis.
How do the military commands verify that there is a real family crisis and provide support to the service man or woman? Our Red Cross’ “Service to the Armed Forces” (SAF) volunteers are there as part of an efficient and caring network of support for our service men and women and their families.
As a Service to Armed Forces (SAF) volunteer, you can help. On a rotating shift basis, SAF volunteers respond to after-hour calls from those in our community who have the need to get emergency information to their military loved ones.
Volunteers take, and verify, vital information according to a pre-determined protocol, then transmit that information to our National office to be sent to the men or women serving their country throughout the world.
The Red Cross provides all the training needed to make this a very rewarding volunteer opportunity. Additionally, trained SAF volunteers both on a local, and National level are available to assist no matter what time of day the need arises. When you volunteer with the American Red Cross, you are not alone!
